Forty years on, Get Carter
is still as unflinchingly tough and stylistically brilliant as it was in 1971.
The immensely charming Michael Caine playing the morally corrupt, cold and
dislikeable Carter creates a strangely fascinating dichotomy. All of the
elements are kept in assured, confident control by director Mike Hodges. Just
excellent.
